The trilogy showcases breathtaking visuals of Middle-earth, providing fans with an immersive experience into Tolkien's rich lore.
Much of the trilogy's magic lies in its exploration of treasure-hunting thrillers and the moral dilemmas surrounding greed. If you are also a fan of the Lord of the Ring franchise, you'll enjoy more of the worlds and the characters that Tolkien created in this prequel to that franchise.

Reign of Fire (2002)
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, "Reign of Fire" presents a darker interpretation of dragons. Featuring Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey, the film depicts society struggling against fire-breathing dragons that have awoken after centuries of dormancy.
With intense action and a unique premise, this film highlights the destructive potential of both humans and the dragons they face. It may not be for the faint-hearted, but its gripping narrative and innovative effects keep audiences on the edge of their seats. The movie has a darker approach to dragons.
Dragonheart (1996)
"Dragonheart" adds an intriguing twist to dragon storytelling. Voiced by Sean Connery, the dragon Draco partners with a disillusioned knight, played by Dennis Quaid, on a journey that blends adventure and comedy. This film is celebrated for its themes of loyalty and redemption.
The film not only presents stunning effects for its time but also introduces an innovative concept of a benevolent dragon, making it a memorable addition to the genre. Its legacy and charm have continued to inspire discussions about good versus evil in fantasy.

Adapted from Christopher Paolini's bestselling series, "Eragon" tells the coming-of-age tale of a farm boy who discovers a dragon egg. When it hatches, he meets the dragon Saphira, which leads him on a quest filled with destiny and courage.
Though it received mixed reviews, the film has a dedicated fan base. It is filled with themes of bravery and self-discovery, appealing especially to those who grew up reading the fantasy novels. Despite its critical reception, its nostalgic value continues to attract viewers.
Game of Thrones (2011-2019)
HBO's "Game of Thrones" revolutionized the portrayal of dragons on television. Daenerys Targaryen's three dragons—Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion—were not only central to her story but also a symbol of her power and ambition.
The series showcased groundbreaking visual effects, raising the bar for future fantasy productions. Its dragons captured the audience's imagination and set new standards in cinematic storytelling.
While I have yet to watch this series, I know I have to include in my list of dragon movies to watch due to its popularity. This series has more adult subject matter, foul language, and scenes of violence, so it is last on my list of must-see dragon movies and shows. That alone is not a jab at the dragons featured in GOT nor disrespect towards the series, of which I've heard only excellent praise for most of its seasons.
